Rosie Perez
Rosie Perez was born Rosa Maria Perez September 6, 1964. She is an American actress. Her breakout moment came with Tina's performance in Do the Right Thing (1989), followed closely by White Men Can't Hop (1992). Perez's performance in Fearless (1993) earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in addition to other awards. Her film credits that have featured her since include It Could Happen to You (1994), The Road to El Dorado (2000), Pineapple Express (2008), and Birds of Prey (2020).
Perez has received three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for In Living Color (1990-1994) and also received an Emmy nomination for her work in The Flight Attendant (2020-present). She has performed in stage productions on Broadway including The Ritz, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, and Fish in the Dark. She was also the co-host of the 18th season of ABC's talk show The View.
Early life
Perez was born on September 6 1964 in Brooklyn to Lydia Perez (a merchant mariner seaman) and Ismael Serano (a Bushwick neighborhood resident). [3][4][5] Perez's mother Lydia Fontanez and Reyes was born in Humacao (Puerto Rico) on October 13, 1939. Her father came from Aguadilla in Puerto Rico. Arturo Perez was her mother's 20-year-old husband. Following an affair with Serrano's father, Perez's mother had already had five children. Perez was born at the now closed Greenpoint Hospital in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood.
Perez is one of ten children borne by her mother. Rosie as well as her siblings were raised in Bushwick, while their mother was in prison for indefinite times. The mother of her child was born to her youngest child while she was imprisoned. For a time she was cared for by an aunt. After that, she was placed in foster care as well as group homes. She was often kept apart from her siblings. She was put into a group foster home, and she lived in foster care New York until she reached age eight. The law recognized her as an ward of the State of New York until age twelve. Aunt and mother often visited her, and her father had a few times tried to take custody of her.
